Pedestrian Badly Injured After Car Hits Her

A woman from San Francisco was badly injured when she was struck by a car while in a crosswalk at the intersection of Vicente and West Portal in San Francisco's West Portal neighborhood. According to a report from SFGate.com, the pedestrian was in a crosswalk. Both the driver and the pedestrian claim to have the right of way.

The injured woman was with her husband at the time, who suffered non life-threatening injuries. The wife suffered catastrophic injuries and was taken to San Francisco General Hospital.

Generally, if a pedestrian is in a crosswalk, a driver must give the pedestrian the right of way. The only time that does not really apply is when the pedestrian "darts out" in front of oncoming traffic.
