Pedestrian Killed by Drunk Driver on Dangerous Sloat Avenue

A 17 year-old student from Lowell High School was struck and killed by a drunk driver as she attempted to cross the intersection of
Sloat Avenue and Forest View Drive. The driver has been arrested and charged with gross vehicular manslaughter. This stretch of Sloat Avenue lacks stop signs or stop lights, and according to many local residents, this encourages drivers to speed along the avenue.
Friends of the decedent have started a signature drive to petition the city of San Francisco to slow down the traffic along Sloat Avenue. Two years ago, a 55-year-old pedestrian was struck and killed at the very same intersection. Over the last few years that have been a number of pedestrian fatalities, and serious pedestrian injuries along Sloat.
This accident may lead to a wrongful death claim against the driver, as well as a "dangerous intersection" claim against CalTrans, San Francisco and others.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friend of the decedent. There has got to be nothing worse than losing a child.
