Elderly Pedestrian Killed in Alameda by AC Transit Bus

An elderly man was killed in December 11 when he was struck by an AC Transit bus. The AC Transit bus was headed north on Grand Street in Alameda, at the intersection of Grand Street and Otis Drive. The bus was turning left and it appears that the
pedestrian - who has not been identified- was in the crosswalk at the time. Of course, drivers are required to yield the right of way to any
pedestrian within a crosswalk. California Vehicle Code section 21950(a) provides:
The driver of a vehicle shall yield the right-of-way to a pedestrian crossing the roadway within any marked crosswalk or within any unmarked crosswalk at an intersection . . .

This is just the latest in a series of fatal collisions involving pedestrians killed by vehicles.
